At the surface, the term “advanced visualization†seems nebulous at best. Medical imaging technology continues to develop and advance at a rapid rate, so determining what qualifies as advanced remains a moving target as well. In general, however, the current cutting edge of imaging centers around 3-D/4-D viewing and mobile technology, with different specialties implementing them in unique ways.
Imaging displays, from consumer to medical grade, have come a long way since the days of bulky screens and low resolutions. Today, flat panel displays in the healthcare arena have increasing capacity to offer improved contrast ratios, truer colors, better energy efficiency, high luminance and more. A variety of vendors continue to improve the technology to better display imaging modalities, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, positron emission tomography (PET), mammography and ultrasound, and to ensure screens remain DICOM (digital imaging and communications in medicine) compliant.
Canvys, a division of Richardson Electronics, announced the new Image Systems XLED series of diagnostic LED backlit displays at the Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting (RSNA 2013). The product family includes 2-megapixel, 3-megapixel and 6-megapixel color displays, along with 2-megapixel, 3-megapixel and 5-megapixel grayscale displays.
The Canvys Healthcare team has launched its new Image Systems 6MP (megapixel) display with LED backlights, and the quality control (QC) Vue browser-based, zero-footprint QC tool for mobile devices and displays. The new 30-inch widescreen, color display features LED backlights that provide high brightness and contrast.
