The American College of Radiology (ACR) announced its support for the Diagnostic Imaging Services Access Protection Act (H.R. 2043) which seeks to prospectively repeal the existing 25 percent Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction (MPPR) applied to Medicare reimbursement. The MPPR is applied for interpretation of advanced diagnostic imaging scans performed on the same patient, in the same session, on the same day.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) and Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) have issued a statement saying that adoption of draft United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) breast cancer screening recommendations would result in thousands of additional and unnecessary breast cancer deaths each year.

A new four-year research study will determine the clinical usefulness and value of a brain positron emission tomography (PET) scan in diagnosing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The $100 million Imaging Dementia – Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) Study — jointly conducted by the Alzheimer’s Association and the American College of Radiology (ACR) — will look at the value of PET in certain situations in detecting a core feature of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has renewed the status of the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) National Radiology Data Registry (NRDR) as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry. With the renewal, radiology professionals can continue to use the NRDR to meet quality reporting requirements under the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS).

Providers can now meet Medicare quality reporting requirements to receive payment for computed tomography (CT) lung cancer screening by submitting data to the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)-approved American College of Radiology (ACR) Lung Cancer Screening Registry.
