Carestream Health will show its new Carestream DRX-Revolution Nano Mobile X-ray System at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America tradeshow, Nov. 26-Dec. 1 in Chicago. This system uses carbon nanotube technology to deliver significantly reduced size and weight when compared to existing mobile X-ray systems. It is scheduled for availability in 2018 and currently is not available for sale.

International medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company Sectra recently signed an agreement with the global teleradiology provider Telemedicine Clinic (TMC). Through this agreement, Sectra can now offer its orthopedic customers access to the service Sectra Implant Movement Analysis. Radiologists at TMC will analyze images sent through Sectra’s online service to determine whether or not a patient’s implant is loose. This will enable orthopedists to understand post-operative chronic pain without performing surgery again, thereby cutting costs and reducing risk for the patients. Initially, Sectra and TMC will provide this service to orthopedic surgeons in Sweden.

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) called on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to move forward urgently with the development of a radiation oncology alternative payment model (RO-APM) following a new report to Congress from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMS Innovation Center). The CMS Innovation Center report outlines important payment model design considerations for implementing an Advanced APM in radiation oncology. ASTRO believes the report recognizes the key model design elements and provides a viable path forward to ensure the field of radiation oncology can be at the forefront of efforts to improve treatment quality and lower costs for cancer patients and the healthcare system.
