On November 15, AHRA: The Association for Medical Imaging Management announced the appointment of Daniel Kelsey, MBA, CAE, as the new chief executive officer. Founded in 1973, AHRA represents the professional interests of almost 6,000 imaging leaders at all levels of hospital imaging departments, freestanding imaging centers, and group practice throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Konica Minolta Healthcare is bringing digital radiography (DR) to life with the ability to visualize movement using conventional X-ray. Known as Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) or X-ray in Motion, this new modality captures movement in a single exam and allows the clinician to observe the dynamic interaction of anatomical structures, such as soft tissue and bone, with physiological changes over time. The value of DDR in thoracic imaging is promising, according to the company, allowing clinicians to observe chest wall, heart and lung motion during respiration. DDR goes beyond pulmonary function; Konica Minolta is exploring its use in orthopedic applications of the spine and extremities.

Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Bay Labs and Northwestern Medicine announced that the first patient has been enrolled in a first-of-its-kind study. The study will evaluate the use of Bay Labs’ EchoGPS cardiac ultrasound guidance software to enable certified medical assistants (CMAs) as medical professionals with no prior scanning experience to capture high-quality echocardiograms. The study will also evaluate the use of its EchoMD measurement and interpretation software suite to detect certain types of heart disease among patients 65 years and older undergoing routine physical examinations in primary care settings.

QView Medical will showcase QVCAD, the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved artificial intelligence (AI) computer-aided detection (CAD) system for concurrent reading of automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) exams, at the 104th Annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting, Nov. 25-30, in Chicago. Being demonstrated for the first time since being approved, QVCAD reduces interpretation time of screening ABUS exams while maintaining diagnostic accuracy.
