February 22, 2024 — With just weeks to go before HIMSS 2024, the Global Conference and Exhibition of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), program planners are detailing keynote speakers to be presented during the March 11-15 event to be held in Orlando, FL at the Orange County Convention Center.

The organization reports that the HIMSS24 Conference Host is Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA, a globally-recognized healthcare technology leader, former chief medical officer for multiple organizations, a thought leader and best-selling author. The former chief medical officer of Salesforce and AT&T and an advisor to the industry’s most influential organizations, Nayyar (also known as “Dr. G”) leverages new innovations, including AI, to achieve previously unimaginable health and business outcomes. She serves on the board of the American Telemedicine Association, is the author of the USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling book, Dead Wrong: Diagnosing and Treating Healthcare's Misinformation Illness, a post-pandemic look at the rise of medical misinformation in the digital age.

HIMSS24 Keynote Presentations

Tuesday, March 12, AM Keynote (8:30-10:00 a.m.)

Personalizing the Patient Experience: Harnessing the Power of AI to Drive Real Transformational Change

The HIMSS24 opening keynote, Robert Garrett, FACHE, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, New Jersey's largest health system, will be sharing his vision and strategies that place next generation tools like artificial Intelligence (AI) into the hands of experienced clinicians that positively impacts patient care. Garrett spoke at the World Economic Forum earlier this month.

The second opening HIMSS24 keynote speaker will be Matt Renner, President of North America and Global Startups at Google Cloud. Renner has more than 25 years of experience in sales and technology, having held key leadership roles at Microsoft, Salesforce, and Oracle Corporation. As noted by HIMSS24 planners, Renner brings invaluable insights from the forefront of cloud computing, and his expertise and commitment to innovation make him a compelling voice in the industry.

The primary messaging will focus on current initiatives, trends and technology shaping the future of healthcare delivery. Specific attention will be brought to high priority concerns: reducing administrative burdens, increasing operational efficiencies, and leveraging data to deliver better patient care. HIMSS emphasized that healthcare organizations are adopting technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics capabilities in order for clinical staff can focus more on care delivery. Critical in today’s healthcare environment, they note, leadership must identify ways to deliver value that improves their overall decision-making approach while personalizing the patient’s experience.

Thursday, March 14 AM Keynote (8:30-9:45 a.m.)

Future of Healthcare: How Robotics, Automation, and AI are Transforming Care Delivery

Zipline Co-founder and CEO, Keller Rinaudo Cliffton, will shed light on robots, automation, artificial intelligence, and drones which he believes can and are dramatically transforming the healthcare industry in ways that markedly affect medical professionals, organizations, and consumers. In his address, reports HIMSS, Rinaudo is expected to offer a deep look at the technological revolution and likely future breakthroughs, as well as possibilities for how new industrialization will alter healthcare as we know it.

Friday, March 15 AM Keynote Address (8:30-10 a.m.)

This is another two-part session featuring critical conversations on practical applications for AI in Healthcare.

Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare: Addressing Legal and Operational Risks with Current Best Practices

To be presented by Michael Ruggio, Partner, Taylor English Dumma LLP, this keynote presentation zeroes in on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The speakers are expected to share insights into how healthcare organizations can increase the likelihood of a positive experience with AI platforms by understanding the inherent risks, so they can effectively navigate these challenges with a clear plan. Best practices will be recommended to address legal and operational challenges that AI systems bring to patient care, patient communications, internal policies and training, supply chain management, and reimbursement.

Exploiting Trust with Technology: The Human Element of Security (Friday keynote Part 2)

Speaker: Rachel Tobac, Chief Executive Officer, SocialProof Security

Security protocols are often built on trust and trust is exploited by attackers—like this keynote, considered an ethical hacker. From email to phone communications, attackers study how to insert themselves within your trusted circles and protocols to leverage that trust against you. During this session, HIMSS reports Tobac will dives into the anatomy of trust exploitation in real world social engineering attacks, walk through step-by-step examples of attacks that happened during COVID-19, and identify steps to protect data, money, security and privacy from real world attackers, even during a global crisis.

Friday PM Keynote (1:00-2:15 p.m.)

Championing the Capacity to Lead

HIMSS 2024 planners will be hosting a fireside chat with newly-retired college football coaching phenom Nick Saban in a session to be moderated by Amy Compton-PhillipsChief Physician Executive for Press Ganey. Having built multiple winning seasons through hard work and determination, offering many parallels from football to healthcare, HIMSS noted that Coach Saban will explain how he’s led multiple teams to victory through a consistent approach that fosters disciplined leadership by exhibiting grit, determination and resilience, and often overcoming adversity to achieve victory.
