February 16, 2024 — A new cloud-native PACS that features a unique AI-based reporting module has been launched by Synthesis Health Inc. The Katy, TX company is led by industry insider Dr. Murray A. Reicher, MD, FACR. Dr. Reicher was the founder and CEO of PACS vendor DR Systems, one of the leading PACS vendors from the 1990’s until 2015 before selling the company to IBM Watson Health/Merge in 2015.
The new PACS features a modular design that allows an end user to select only the modules they need either in an integrated system or as an overlay to their existing system. The reporting system has been a point of interest due to the severe shortage of radiologists as well as recent advancements in AI technology that improves the speed of reading. While most reporting systems require you to dictate in a specific order, Synthesis’ patented speech organization allows the radiologist to dictate in whatever order they want yet still have a properly organized report when completed. The system also automatically generates an impression. The company has applied for an international patent on a new reporting paradigm that parses information from prior reports to prepopulate findings in current report templates. The reading/reporting solution was designed to act as either an overlay to existing PACS or as a PACS/Cloud archive. This is all done on a single screen display as well, making it perfect for teleradiology applications.
The balance of the core system offered by Synthesis includes several modules that are tightly interwoven. These include a comprehensive workflow and reporting solution, a diagnostic and enterprise viewer, a unified worklist with automated exam assignment,a cloud archive, and a streamlined DICOM/HL7 orchestrator that allows communication between systems.
The company also designed an implementation and training “playbook” to provide continual performance improvement. These include the standardization of modalities, exam types, body region, templates, technologist forms, protocol documents and a comparison tool. Having data presented in this manner allows a radiologist to read from many completely different institutions but see exams and templates presented as if from one organization while coordinating workflow customization and seamless AI deployment.
