October 26, 2016 — Utah-based healthcare technology company Novarad exhibited its ChameleonDR digital radiography solution at the 2016 annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2016), Nov. 27-Dec. 3 in Chicago.
The ChameleonDR solution is made up of a software component and a DR plate. It is equipped with Novarad’s proprietary A3 image post-processing technology, an advanced, automated and adaptive approach that enables sharper image quality.
Other features of the solution include sharp images up to 300 percent reduced exposure while providing HD-quality image resolution (15MP), 100 µm pixel pitch, auto-detected interchangeable cassettes, a pre-populated database of X-ray procedures, on-board memory for image storage and an optional rugged laptop for ultimate portability. The lightweight cassette fits a conventional table or wall Bucky.
According to Novarad, the wireless solution was created to be an easy upgrade over traditional computed radiography (CR), DR or even film without having to disrupt X-ray components already in place.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 includes payment reductions intended to incentivize the transition from traditional X-ray to digital radiography. Beginning in January, the act incurred a reduction in Medicare fee-for-service payment for certain X-ray services provided using film, and in 2018 will cause a reduction in the Medicare fee-for-service payment for X-ray services using CR equipment.
