December 22, 2014 — Healthcare visualization vendor Barco developed a set of productivity tools that work with its high-end diagnostic display systems to increase focus during reading sessions, improve reading ergonomics and accelerate radiologists’ workflow.
According to a recent study by independent healthcare research agency The MarkeTech Group, 77 percent of radiologists believe that efficient workflow has a major impact on the outcome of reading sessions. That’s why Barco has developed a set of software tools – built on AMD FirePro technology and powered by Barco’s proprietary MXRT display controllers – to support radiologists with their increasingly busy and complex workload.
The set includes seven tools focused on image quality, display system and ergonomics and ease of use.
SpotView technology focuses the light on lesions or abnormalities that require extra attention in the image. Especially helpful when viewing pediatric extremities, breast calcifications and chest images, SpotView supports the viewing of subtle differences in the image. Another tool called DimView can be configured to automatically dim the auxiliary displays used for patient work lists or dictation. This reduces distracting peripheral light so radiologists can keep their focus on the details that really matter.
SingleView (to view images on one bezel-free Fusion display) supports flexible layouts of studies and applications within the radiologist’s field of vision. VirtualView helps bring all study data together on one display: work list information, dictation software, or even Web-based applications can be mapped to a virtual display and shown on the primary screen when needed.
This gives radiologists more real estate on the screen without the need for an additional display, saving space as well as cost, while providing them with more reading comfort as the applications limit the need for head and eye movement. These are not insignificant benefits, as studies show that 87 percent of radiologists suffer from physical discomforts such as eye strain and neck pain.
Additional tools are the programmable FindCursor hotkey to quickly locate and use the cursor on a workstation with multiple displays; and SmartCursor to instantly improve workflow on a multiple display system by eliminating places in the desktop where the cursor can get stuck. Additionally, Conference CloneView enables large-screen viewing of precise diagnostic images to facilitate collaboration.
