October 20, 2014 — Barco announces the release of Coronis Uniti, a diagnostic display designed for both picture archive and communications systems (PACS) and breast imaging. It offers high image quality, productivity features and ergonomics to address specific challenges in modern radiology.
Radiologists’ most important issues were brought to light a few weeks ago, when healthcare research agency The MarkeTech Group revealed the results of its most recent radiology survey. The study, which interviewed more than 200 radiologists from Europe and North America, also offered clear insights into possible solutions. For example, the majority of respondents indicated that higher image quality, a more efficient workflow and increased comfort would significantly increase reading performance.
By supporting both PACS and breast imaging, calibrated color and grayscale, 2-D and 3-D, and static as well as dynamic images, Coronis Uniti eliminates the need for multi-head display setups or moving to another workstation. Features that improve the reading experience include RapidFrame technology to ensure crisp and in-focus moving images and an multi-touch pad for fast application control.
The 12MP, high-resolution color screen meets the DICOM standard for grayscale images and to guarantee consistent color, the display is equipped with Barco’s SteadyColor calibration technology. Additional features include Color Per Pixel Uniformity to reduce screen noise and Ambient Light. The MediCal QAWeb software for automated calibration and Quality Assurance guarantees performance without interruptions.
According to MarkeTech’s study, no fewer than 87 percent of radiologists experience physical discomfort when reading images, ranging from eye fatigue to back pain. With Coronis Uniti, the display optimizes the reading experience by mirroring a human’s natural field of vision. Its format minimizes the need for head and eye movements, while also allowing for side-by-side comparison of multiple images.
To reduce eye fatigue, the SoftGlow wall light adds ambient light to the reading room, while the SoftGlow task light shines a light on papers and film folders. Barco’s Optical Glass technology is also incorporated into the display, which reduces reflections and enhances image sharpness for greater viewing comfort. Additionally, Coronis Uniti can be turned into a virtual lightbox to compare film-based priors – using a handy film clip – with current digital exams.
