Varian ASTRO Exhibit Radiation Therapy QA Systems Treatment Planning

September 11, 2014 — Varian Medical Systems will showcase technologies developed to support knowledge sharing among oncology professionals at the meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). The Varian exhibit will highlight software and services that enable information sharing and data analytics to support more efficient, higher-quality cancer care.

"We will unveil some new, interconnected software products aimed at improving efficiency, quality, and consistency of care in cancer clinics around the world," said Kolleen Kennedy, president of Varian's oncology systems business. "We're particularly excited to be offering a first glimpse of our new cloud community, where users of Varian technology can share information and experience."

Varian will highlight:

  • The TrueBeam and Edge platforms for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. Early adopters of the Edge system report that they are using it to deliver treatments for cancer of the lung, liver, brain and spine, which require careful, precise targeting that compensates for motion during treatment;
  • InSightive Analytics, a new interactive dashboard that organizes and presents information in a simple display for easy decision making. This tool will enable oncology professionals to more effectively capitalize on their data in Varian's Aria oncology information system;*
  • Qumulate QA, a cloud-based quality assurance data management and analysis tool for analyzing and benchmarking linear accelerator quality assurance (QA) performance;*
  • Velocity oncology software for compiling patient images and treatment data from a variety of sources to support more informed decision-making; and
  • RapidPlan knowledge-based treatment planning, a software tool that uses historical treatment plan data to increase plan quality and streamline the treatment planning process.

"For Varian, helping customers aggregate data, pool knowledge, and learn from each other has become an imperative, as more and more treatment centers seek effective ways of implementing precise, non-invasive treatments like image-guided radiosurgery," says Chris Toth, vice president of global marketing for Varian's Oncology Systems business. "Our goal, with many of our new products and services, is to help our customers turn data into usable information on how to treat patients, and then to collaborate in making that knowledge actionable in a meaningful way."
