March 27, 2014 – Mobius Imaging, LLC, has received the Red Dot Product Design 2014 Award for its Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT imaging system.
Established in 1955, Red Dot is one of the most sought-after marks of good design. This year, a jury of 40 designers and design experts from across the globe convened in Germany for a three-day period to evaluate entrants for the award. Criteria included innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, sustainability, symbolic and emotional content and whether a product is self-explanatory.
Airo excelled across the board. From its curved battery array and high voltage generator to a proprietary surgical table column, every component of the device has been meticulously engineered and customized with users in mind. The result is a unique system that advances health care delivery by producing high-quality CT images that enhance surgical decision-making and support minimally invasive surgery.
"We are very grateful for this recognition from the Red Dot jury," said Gene Gregerson, CEO of Mobius Imaging. "Our engineers did extensive research while developing Airo. They observed surgeries, conducted usability studies and took time to understand the challenges healthcare providers face with medical images. We believe they developed an extremely creative solution, and I'm personally proud to see us receive this honor."
Airo’s design combines the largest gantry opening on the market with a slim gantry and small footprint. The gantry houses custom components including an X-ray tube, 32-slice helical scan detector array, high-voltage generator, air-cooling system and built-in battery pack. Total integration of the O.R. table column offers fixed correlation between the patient and scanner, resulting in reproducible imaging.
Suspension-controlled, the Airo electrical drive system features a central wheel for compact maneuvering. With its user-friendly control software, even one person can easily move Airo from one room to another. A front-view camera helps ensure portability.
