New mammography system provides for lower radiation dose and improved patient comfort at Pink Breast Center, Paterson, N.J.

Pink Breast Cancer Center Paterson, N.J. Mommomat Inspiration Prime Edition

March 7, 2014 — Pink Breast Center of Paterson, N.J., is the first U.S. healthcare facility to install the Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition, a new premium mammography system from Siemens Healthcare. The Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition ensures greater patient comfort while lowering radiation dose up to 30 percent compared to its predecessor model without compromising image quality.

“Pink Breast Center of Paterson is thrilled to offer the Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition to our patients,” said Lisa Sheppard, M.D., medical director at Pink Breast Center. “The ability to offer women a significantly lower radiation dose during their mammogram is a major benefit. Additionally, my patients repeatedly report less discomfort during breast compression thanks to the Prime Edition. An improved patient experience may convince more of them to return for future potentially life-saving mammograms.”

The Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition lowers patient radiation dose by up to 30 percent compared to its predecessor model, the Mammomat Inspiration, depending on the thickness of the patient’s breast tissue. This dose reduction is possible because the system replaces the scatter radiation grid common to conventional mammography with Siemens’ revolutionary Prime (Progressive Reconstruction, Intelligently Minimizing Exposure) algorithm for progressive image reconstruction. The Prime algorithm enables lower radiation doses that are sufficient to generate high-quality breast images.

The Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition also boasts features that foster a more positive patient experience. The system’s Opcomp function applies compression only as long as the patient’s breast is soft and pliable, stopping at the point of optimal compression. Additionally, the MoodLight LED panel can be illuminated with selectable colors to create a more relaxing environment.

The Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition mammography system is based on Siemens’ Mammomat Inspiration platform for screening, diagnostics and biopsy, which has been available since 2010.
