February 18, 2014 — Senates in Missouri (SB 639) and the state of Washington (SB 6050) have both advanced Breast Density Inform bills. The bills are now headed to their respective Houses of Representatives. Rhode Island has also introduced a Breast Density Inform bill (H7341). If passed, these states will join 14 others that have enacted laws regarding breast density inform. Those include: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Nationally, a Breast Density Reporting amendment is scheduled as a 2014 “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.” That amendment would apply to the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) passed in 1992. Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Steve Israel (D-NY) introduced The Breast Density and Mammography Reporting Act of 2013 (HR3404).
