RSNA 2013 an Exchange of Knowledge

By Melinda Taschetta-Millane, editorial director

The 99th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) drew more than 50,000 professionals together at McCormick Place in Chicago this past week. Around 5,000 scientific research presentations and education exhibits covered the latest research developments in radiology and related imaging technologies during the week-long meeting.

The society named Nicholas Reed Dunnick, M.D., president of the RSNA board of directors. He is the Fred Jenner Hodges professor and chair of the department of radiology at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich. As president, Dunnick will help shape and implement RSNA's vision and strategic goals to advance the radiologic sciences and develop the future of patient-centered practice.

Ronald L. Arenson, M.D., FACR, was named president-elect. He is the Alexander R. Margulis distinguished professor and chair of the department of radiology and biomedical imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. As president-elect, Arenson will focus on the value and improvement of patient-centered care initiatives at the society's annual meeting and throughout the year.

The results of several significant studies were presented during the meeting, many of them focused on the very important topic of breast health, including breast tomosynthesis, breast density, MR-guided ultrasound as a noninvasive treatment option, and mammography screening.

The two main exhibit halls at McCormick Place featured the very latest in trends and technology; contributing editor Greg Freiherr recaps some of the stand-out technology from the show floor in ITN’s RSNA Update trilogy of videos, which can be found at http://www.itnonline.com/view-all/videos, along with other live videos from the show floor.

Just a few of the exhibit hall’s highlights are featured below. Descriptions of more than 300 products presented at RSNA can also be found on our FastPass website channel, www.itnonline.com/rsna-fastpass
