November 25, 2013 — The newest version of Softek Illuminate automatically delivers the patient’s clinical history as soon as a radiologist opens a study to read. PatientView in Illuminate 4.0 now pulls in clinical notes from the electronic medical records (EMR) and displays them along with relevant radiology, pathology and lab reports at the point of interpretation.
Radiologists no longer have to log into the EMR system to see a patient’s problem list, medications, allergies, vital signs, lab tests and clinical summaries, according to Matt McLenon, CEO, Softek. The same click that opens a new radiology study triggers PatientView to load the patient’s clinical documentation. Filters and search bars allow clinicians to pinpoint the exact patient information they need to make their diagnosis, McLenon added. Clinicians at the University of Kansas Medical Center have been using PatientView for several years.
According to Philip Johnson, M.D. and radiology chair, KU, the latest version, with the inclusion of clinical notes, gives radiologists and pathologists a much fuller understanding of the story behind the image.
“The difficult job of finding a patient’s clinical history is gone — that history now comes to us,” said Johnson. “If I’m reading a follow-up CT for a cancer patient, the prior surgical notes, pathology reports and lab results are right there for me to see."
"By automatically seeing a patient’s relevant history, our radiologists can more quickly make an accurate interpretation and deliver more definitive reports to patients and our referring physicians," he added.
Softek will demonstrate PatientView and the rest of Illuminate’s search, data aggregation and analytics technology Dec. 1-6 at the Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting (RSNA 2013) in booth 5339.
Other Illuminate applications include InSight, which searches the data archive and track patient follow-up; ActKnowledge, which documents the communication of non-routine findings; Analytics for real-time business intelligence; DiscoveryServices, which uncovers overlooked patients in need of critical interventions; and DiscoveryReports of information to meeet government reporting requirements and internal QI initiatives.
