Image-sharing platform to connect area hospitals, doctors and patients via cloud-based platform
October 24, 2013 — Accelarad, a cloud-based medical image sharing solution company, announced that it has launched Connect America, a first-of-a-kind program that will revolutionize accountable care by connecting patients, doctors and hospitals across the country with 21st century medical image sharing.
Previously, images were shared manually on CDs, which had a high defect rate and often required patient rescans. Connect America will join together hospitals, clinics, physicians and patients from Raleigh N.C. to Seattle, Wash. via a cloud-based platform that allows medical professionals to share images instantly and as easily as using a social networking site. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant solution also makes images immediately available for doctors and patients online and via a custom iPhone or iPad application.
"Sharing images via Connect allows us to immediately identify the appropriate medical specialist and speed diagnostic images to them so we can quickly confer on the cases," said Donald Plumley, M.D., co-director of trauma, Orlando Health and director, pediatric trauma service, Arnold Palmer Hospital. "As the Connect America network grows, so does access to improved treatment options for patients across the country."
Collaborative medical image and document exchange has the potential to eliminate the use of CDs, speeding up the treatment decision process and allowing doctors to focus on improved patient care. Furthermore, the free mobile app empowers patients to take an active role in their own wellness by making it easy to seek a second opinion or set up a specialist consult without requiring a full record release.
