March 4, 2013 — Heralded by the new promotional theme Direct to the Point-of-Care…Outside Images Seamlessly Delivered — ETIAM enhances its flagship ETIAM-Connect image sharing and management system with a range of timely new features at HIMSS 2013.
Debuting at HIMSS is a sophisticated analytics dashboard (or functionality) that tracks enterprise image activity, including volume and destination of outside images, movement of images within the hospital and external image sharing. In addition, for outside images entering the enterprise, ETIAM also introduces enhanced automated reconciliation of patient identifiers to seamlessly incorporate outside images in an internal picture archive and communications system (PACS).
“In today’s complex healthcare environment, large volumes of images flow in and out of the enterprise with few mechanisms to track or support this activity,” says Eric Le Bihan, president of ETIAM. “The growing complexity of healthcare regulation requires documentation of a wide range of imaging-related information. In today’s age of Big Data, hospitals need to track, analyze and manage vast amounts of information, including imaging statistics.
“Additionally, as hospitals implement an ever-expanding range of IT solutions to automate the image communications process, understanding data volume and flow will guide selection of appropriate solutions, help forecast archiving needs and much more.”
Le Bihan also adds that the increased cross-enterprise image exchange necessitates ingestion of appropriate images in the enterprise PACS. Automation of the process is extremely beneficial. “In large institutions, and many small hospitals as well, the volume of CDs, DVDs, electronic images and films flowing in can be overwhelming,” he says. “ETIAM’s automatic reconciliation of patient identifiers ensures information integrity and streamlines image communications throughout the hospital and appropriate incorporation in the PACS.”
The only solution of its kind, ETIAM-Connect manages images from beyond the enterprise as well as caters to the demand for both internal and external images from departments beyond radiology. The new promotional theme, Direct to the Point-of-Care . . . Outside Images Seamlessly Delivered, succinctly sums up the functionality of ETIAM’s flagship technology.
With ETIAM-Connect, all medical images entering a facility on CD and DVD can be directly transferred from the clinical department involved to the enterprise PACS or other IT system accessible by all clinicians, with a complete management and automation of patient information reconciliation. The system also handles non-standard dugutal imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) such as iSite, Amicas and SCImage images.
If desired, the institution can decide to import into the PACS only select studies and to temporarily store others on a Web-accessible local ETIAM server, where they can be accessed by all clinicians as needed. This enables broad image access without storing images of patients seen on a consultative basis only.
ETIAM-Connect provides full HIPAA compliance of images and related information and enables restriction of access to designated external nodes without any reconfiguration of internal hospital IT infrastructure.
ETIAM-Connect also provides a URL for uploading DICOM images and associated documents for electronic sharing of information from beyond the enterprise. An ETIAM Agent gateway can be installed in regular hospital partner sites to provide a proxy enabling direct PACS-to-PACS communication.
Beyond image communication, ETIAM-Connect also provides a complete solution for bidirectional information exchange including routing, messaging, workflow, directory, logs and statistics management.
