April 12, 2012 — Philips Healthcare recently installed an Allura Xper FD 20/20 biplane angiography X-ray system at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, with a National Basketball Association (NBA) theme to put children at ease prior to and during interventional radiology procedures.

Putting patients at ease — especially children — has its own set of requirements. After a longstanding relationship with Philips and its local NBA basketball team, the Utah Jazz, Primary Children’s Medical Center tackled that challenge. The hospital combined a Philips X-ray system with walls covered with basketball-themed murals and cabinets disguised as lockers in its new interventional radiology room. Incorporating the distraction for children who enter the room is paramount to helping make exams faster and easier.

“With the ease of use of the system, the welcoming nature of the room décor and Philips’ well-earned reputation for excellent customer service, we’re achieving a trifecta in efforts to improve workflow,” said Peter Feola, M.D., Primary Children’s Medical Center. “Providing access to this leading edge technology and knowing our system will be up and running as soon as possible, should we need service, is in line with our commitment to putting the patient first. We’re dedicated to doing everything we can to focus on caring for young patients.”

The centerpiece of the space is Philips’ FD 20/20 imaging system. With integrated Live 3-D guidance, the system offers excellent insight for decision-making during complex procedures.

The 289-bed hospital serves children with complex illness and injuries coming from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Montana.
