December 7, 2011 — Sony Electronics will unveil its new direct thermal printable disc drive at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, Nov. 27 – Dec. 3, 2011, in Chicago. The UPB-C 10 printable disc drive (PDD) is a DVD burner with built-in direct thermal label printer. It is designed for easy integration into any picture archiving and communication system (PACS) workstation for fast, accurate and reliable printing. This can also help reduce printing errors for imaging staff and patients.
The new compact drive eliminates the need for centralized multi-disc burning solutions as well as the need to travel to remote locations to pick up the labeled disc. This ability to print at any workstation is coupled with a print speed of approximately 30 seconds compared to the longer print speeds of similar products. The result is improved workflow and efficiency.
“Busy imaging centers want more time to focus on their patients, so the UPB-C10 will be a welcome addition, saving them valuable time and creating accurate DVDs that they can quickly and confidently distribute,” said George Santanello, general manager, Sony Electronics’ Medical Systems Division.
The device also assures quality and reduces the potential for printing errors because there is no need to use two separate products or turn the disc over for each process. Other features and benefits include the ability to perform both data writing and label printing in a standard 5.25-inch bay, while requiring no drying time. This allows healthcare professionals to deliver the disc to patients immediately after printing.
The PDD comes with the label template and management software for customized designs to support an individual healthcare facility’s marketing and branding; it also supports a full range of common DVD/CD formats.
Available in white or black to match the workstation, the disc drive can be mounted vertically or horizontally for easy fit. Since the printable disc drive does not utilize ribbons or cartridges, additional cost-savings can be realized.
