November 30, 2011 – Medweb will be showcasing the very latest in Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise interoperability at RSNA, Booth 5204. Medweb’s cloud picture archive and communications system (PACS) service extends certified integrating the healthcare enterprise (IHE)-compliant image archiving to all sizes of medical practices. This offering is now available as an integrated storage service, giving clinicians a single resource that links to all image sources in their community.

Medweb’s certification specifically addresses the workflows for intramural Radiology and PACS workflow, as well as cross-enterprise document and image sharing, and related encryption, logging and collaboration profiles, which allow sharing of medical imaging and documents between hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices. The company’s IHE compliance includes IHE cross-enterprise document sharing and IHE Cr cross-enterprise document sharing for imaging, XDS b document repository, image manager scheduled workflow (SWF) and patient information reconciliation (PIR) as well as providing comprehensive clinical document repository (CDR) and vendor neutral archive (VNA) capabilities.

IHE is an initiative by medical specialists, administrators, and information technology professionals and industry to improve the way healthcare systems share information. It promotes coordinated use of established data communication standards such as digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) and HL7 to address specific clinical needs and provide optimal patient care. IHE can make systems integration faster, more efficient and less costly. Achieving systems interoperability through IHE is a critical step toward providing optimal patient care.

The IHE framework defines a set of integration profiles, each of which addresses a specific patient care requirement. Within each integration profile is defined a set of roles played by actors.

The 2011 Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon, allowed vendors to perform required transactions for the roles they select (IHE Actors) in support of defined clinical use cases (IHE Profiles) that allow integration of multiple information systems from disparate institutions to share medical record and image data electronically between facilities.
