September 14, 2011 - ContextVision announced a new advanced imaging capability for its ultrasound image enhancement software product family, USPLUSView and GOPiCE US, directed towards the technically difficult maternity patient. The new technology, Clinical Direct Focused Enhancement (DFE) enables feature/region specific enhancement, a first in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market. US PLUSView allows OEMs to provide a full range of ultrasound image enhancement capabilities, including deeper penetration, edge sharpening, contrast enhancement and improved speckle reduction features.
Clinical DFE targets anatomical-specific features to isolate and enhance selected parts of the image. This allows doctors to view finely enhanced images in real-time, even in the case of technically difficult patients.
GOPiCE US, with its unique volumetric enhancement, offers clinicians the ability to see areas never seen before, such as the regions of the fetal brain previously hidden by speckle and noise in 2-D and unenhanced 3-D ultrasound images, especially in the technically difficult maternity patient. The unprecedented visualization achieved using GOPiCE will ultimately lead to improved diagnostic value. Additionally, GOPiCE minimizes processing time: it leverages the speed of graphics processing units (GPUs), processing up to 24 volumes per second at 128x128x128 pixels or 40 volumes in single planar reconstruction mode.
"Old ultrasound technology was unable to highlight specific anatomical features for additional visualization without affecting overall image quality. With the help of ContextVision's enabling technologies, US PLUSView and GOPiCE US, I can treat difficult patients in a way that I never could before with more precise and clear images, enabling me to make a more accurate diagnosis immediately," said Anders Selbing, MD, Ph.D.
