July 29, 2011 – Philips installed a MultiDiagnost Eleva X-ray system at Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital serving southeast Florida, and MultiDiagnost Eleva with 3-D-RX reconstruction technology at West Boca Medical Center, an award-winning facility serving Boca Raton and Palm Beach county regions. The hospitals are part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, one of the largest investor-owned healthcare delivery systems in the nation.

At the center of Delray Medical Center’s new interventional radiology room is Philips MultiDiagnost Eleva, a C-arm based radiography/fluoroscopy (R/F) system. The system boasts faster technology than the previous Philips unit replaced at the hospital. Clinicians are already using it for vascular work and since the interface mirrors the system they worked with in the past, they feel like they knew how to use it before it even arrived.

 “We had seen success with a previous generation of a Philips R/F room for many years,” said Fernando Rivera, M.D., interventional radiologist. “When it came time to make the new purchase, we immediately thought of Philips. We chose this specific technology at Delray Medical Center to support goals of faster diagnoses, shorter hospital visits and lower costs.”

At sister hospital West Boca Medical Center, the X-ray system features 3-D-RX reconstruction technology, which covers vascular and general interventions, orthopedics and spine procedures. The flexible rotation of the C-arm, which moves 180 degrees around the patient, is a prerequisite for the 3-D technology, and helps provide a comfortable patient experience.

"3-D technology offers increased detail for needle-guided studies and excellent visualization of small structures like ducts,” added Rivera. “We now have the ability to view images in multiple planes as well as virtually ‘cut away’ anatomic areas, allowing us to focus on pertinent anatomy."

With the objective of saving time for clinicians and patients, members of the radiology department chose Philips R/F solutions for their ability to be used for both diagnostic and interventional procedures on the same system.
