July 27, 2011 — Philips’ new MobileDiagnost, a mobile digital radiography (DR) solution with a wireless portable detector that facilitates diagnosis of immobile and critical patients, is now available in the United States. The portable solution improves workflow and efficiency of patient exams through an intuitive user interface and rapid access to digital images.
In a recent study presented at the 2011 European Society of Radiology conference, researchers using a DR system with a wireless detector cut 25 percent off patient exam time – the equivalent of 10 days a year – for a typical two-view skeletal exam, compared with conventional computed radiography (CR). In addition, another study found that a mobile DR unit offers better image quality than CR for bedside chest exposures, in some cases even at 50 percent of the X-ray dose used to acquire the CR image.
The device is a flexible, mobile solution that provides the same outstanding image quality as Philips’ full efficiency premium DigitalDiagnost DR rooms anywhere in the hospital, including trauma and operating rooms and intensive care units. Its wireless portable detector is durable, featuring an ergonomic handle and a rubber case for increased protection. The cable-free detector design also helps health care professionals adhere to hygienic standards. Once the system is positioned around the patient, it acquires images in just a few seconds and sends them wirelessly to the facility’s picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
Equipped with a 40 kilowatt (kW) generator, the system delivers short exposure times for challenging examinations, critical patients, pediatric and bariatric patients. The system’s UNIQUE image processing algorithm combines with the Eleva interface, allowing technologists to react swiftly and perform a multitude of difficult examinations with ease.
