October 28, 20009 - The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center will be the first cancer center on the West Coast of the United States to own all the latest oncology products from Elekta, including Impac and CMS software.

Rex Hoffman, M.D. is Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, where the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center will be located. He says the groundbreaking for the new Center was held in October 2007. "We're very excited to bring this state-of-the-art cancer center to the San Fernando Valley (California). The Center is on schedule to open its doors to the community in February 2010." He expects the Center to treat approximately 2,600 new patients every year.

Using one company to provide planning, treatment, and oncology information systems or EMR support can help improve patient throughput, quality of care and efficiency. When it opens, the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center will house an Elekta Axessefor Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and two Elekta Infinity systems for Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT).

The Center also will utilize Impac and CMS Software, including treatment planning and workflow management solutions, as well as the latest version of MOSAIQ dedicated oncology information system, designed to streamline the entire therapy workflow.

This electronic medical record (EMR) will not only be in the radiation oncology department, but will be throughout the building allowing physicians and their staffs to be inter-connected.

The Center will be home to a cancer resource center, where patients will be able to research information with the help of a medical librarian and trained volunteers, as well as a pharmacy and a personalappearance center. It also will house the Sheri and Roy P. Disney Center for Integrative Medicine where patients will be able to explore complementary therapies like acupuncture, herbal medicine, yoga, meditation and tai chi, along with traditional treatment.

A great deal of emphasis also will be on the program's survivorship program which will help both patients and their families heal from their diagnosis and get some semblance of normalcy back in their lives. Additionally, the Center is collaborating with Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and its medical group to establish an Adolescent and Young Adult program which will benefit both survivors of pediatric malignancies and patients diagnosed between the ages of 18 and 35 by providing services and treatment regimens specific to their needs.
