Helping to reduce medication errors, patients prescribed Cefotetan for bacterial infections can now have the antibiotic delivered in a safe, ready-to-use IV drug delivery system by B. Braun Medical Inc.
Cefotetan is available in 1g and 2g in B.Braun’s DUPLEX Drug Delivery System. With a unique closed system design, the DUPLEX System helps ensure accurate dosage delivery and allows for room-temperature storage to decrease waste often associated with IV antibiotics.
DUPLEX, a dual chamber pre-filled, PVC-free, DEHP-free, and Latex-free IV container, stores the drug and diluent in separate compartments until the seal is broken just prior to administration, helping clinicians comply with The Joint Commission guidelines which state specify medicines should be dispensed in their “most ready-to-use form.” Prior to activation, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 12 months and does not require thawing. The system is also equipped with a barcode system that references the final admixture, which can be used to reduce medication errors, automate patient charting, track inventory and facilitate reimbursement tracking.
With the addition of Cefotetan to its drug delivery portfolio, B. Braun says it now offers a broad spectrum of intravenous cephalosporin antibiotic therapies for the hospital setting, including: Cefoxitin, CefTRIaxONE, Cefazolin, CefUROXime, and Cefotetan.
