California Facilities First to Demonstrate Sony’s IPELA Visual Communications System

FEBRUARY 2, 2007 — Silicon Valley El Camino Hospital demonstrated the educational and collaborative capabilities of the IPELA, Sony Electronics’ high-definition IP-based visual communications system. During a live, two-way conference, oncology physicians from El Camino Hospital and City of Hope cancer center, both located in California, shared information on difficult-to-treat liver tumor cases.
Sony’s HD technology allows physicians to remotely share images at levels of precise detail, clarity and resolution previously not possible, from individual blood vessels in a surgical video to the granular details of a pathology slide.
El Camino plans to install the Sony visual communications system into its pathology and catheterization labs, an operating room and a conference room.
