October 10, 2007 – Care Communications Inc. recently announced an agreement with the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC), a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients, to provide its cancer registry services to support the annual National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) Call for Data.
The CoC reportedly assists hospital cancer programs in an effort to maintain the highest level of data quality possible. Cancer registry data submissions are valuable resources utilized to assess and improve the quality of care for patients with cancer. This information enables cancer programs to compare treatment and outcomes with regional, state and national benchmarks. Data collected include patient characteristics, tumor staging and histology characteristics, type of first course treatment administered, disease recurrence, and survival information. These data elements are collected and submitted to the NCDB during its annual Call for Data.
Care Communications is in place to support cancer registrars from across the country through each step of the NCDB data receipt process, including data submission, edits, corrections, and report administration.
