October 29, 2007 - HealthTek Software Solutions recently licensed First DataBank’s OrderView Med Knowledge Base, a computerized physician order entry (CPOE) ready drug database designed for medication ordering and prescribing.
OrderView will be integrated into RxReconcile, HealthTek’s medication reconciliation software solution. RxReconcile is a point-and-click software solution that automates the medication reconciliation process. It integrates medication reconciliation with the orders process, which the company says will eliminate redundancy, reduces errors and subsequent adverse drug events.
HealthTek developed RxReconcile in response to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ national safety standards requiring the accurate and complete reconciliation of medications across the continuum of care. The company expects the enhanced product will broaden physician adoption of a technology to prevent medication errors and improve patient safety.
Medication reconciliation is a process of identifying the most accurate list of all medications a patient is taking - including name, dosage, frequency, and route - and using this list to provide correct medications for patients by comparing their current list of medications against the physician’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge orders at all transition points within a hospital. Reconciliation is done to avoid medication errors such as omissions, duplications, dosing errors or drug interactions.
