November 2, 2007 - Ansell Limited today introduced Derma Prene IsoTouch powder-free, nonlatex surgical gloves made from synthetic polyisoprene, which deliver the performance of natural rubber latex without the risks of natural rubber sensitization.
Derma Prene IsoTouch provides surgeons with top infection control to ensure protection against viral permeation. Although not required by the FDA, the surgical gloves have passed viral penetration tests according to ASTM International F1671 and F1670 standards. The gloves feature Ansell’s patent-pending SureFit technology, which prevents cuff roll-down. The gloves also provide a protective barrier for handling bone cement products.
The gloves have an enhanced polymer coating, which offers easy dry and damp-hand donnability, while the design and thickness allow for easy and comfortable double-gloving. The gloves are produced on new, ergonomically-designed formers to enhance fit and comfort and reduce hand fatigue and stress. The company says Ansell’s proprietary polyurethane inner coating will not break down, and it resists alcohol-based disinfectants.
The gloves are light green for instant identification as free of natural rubber latex and reduce confusion as well as risk to both healthcare workers and patients with sensitive skin. Made of 100 percent synthetic polyisoprene, they are safe for latex-sensitive healthcare professionals and patients (Type I allergies).
