November 6, 2007 - The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) is holding its 34th Annual Meeting and Conference Nov. 8-10, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington D.C.
This year’s theme “Breaking Barriers: Changing Policy and Practice with Evidence” could not be timelier, according to conference co-chairs, Jacqueline Dunbar-Jacob, Ph.D, RN, FAAN and Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Ph.D, RN, CPNP/NPP, FAAN.
“The conference is designed to bring to the forefront the latest in evidence-based recommendations and to tie these recommendations to practice, education, management and policy,” said Dr. Dunbar-Jacob. “Strides have been made in the science arenas underlying clinical, management, and educational practices and application to policy initiatives.”
Highlights from this year’s program include an opening keynote session “Evidence-Based Practice and the Quality Movement,” by Janet M. Corrigan, PhD, MBA, president and CEO of the National Quality Forum. The session “Pay For Performance” will be presented by Mark B. McClellan, M.D., Ph.D, MPA, founding director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform, AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies.
Other key note sessions include “Impact of Healthcare Issues on the 2008 Presidential Election,” “Nursing Informatics Patient-Centered Care and Electronic Health Records,” and “Evidence-Based Management.”
The American Academy of Nursing anticipates and tracks national and international trends in healthcare, while addressing resulting issues of healthcare knowledge and policy.
