November 29, 2007 - Matrox demonstrated its latest medical graphics solutions at the 2007 RSNA — the Equinox graphics extension unit, which allows deployment of dual displays in the digital OR, and the Onyx companion board, which allows a fiber optic connection to monitors in the control room.
The technology allows replication of OR audio, video and image displays and medical information in various locations, remote control of the displays, connecting ORs with planning areas, control rooms and educational areas on a single system, and reduced interference, noise and cable clutter in the OR.
The maker says Equinox allows pristine quality images to be routed from a commercial PC workstation using Microsoft Windows to remote displays anywhere in the hospital over a secure line. It can connect displays up to 4 mega pixels with audio input from a microphone. Equinox also has six USB 2.0 ports for a keyboard, mouse and other peripherals for added connectivity. The device is fanless so it can be used in the OR without spreading dust or infectious particles.
The Onyx PCIe, single-slot, fanless companion board to Equinox reproduces the Equinox medical imaging capabilities onto displays next to the host PC, allowing OR staff to plan and monitor surgeries outside the OR. It extends displays up to 250 feet away from the host PC via fiber optic cable.
