February 4, 2008 - At the annual HIMSS meeting Feb. 23-28, Sprint will focus on its Nextel Direct Connect, its push-to-talk communications device for use in acute care hospitals.
Michael Suk, M.D., director of the orthopedic trauma service at Shands Medical Center, Jacksonville, FL, recently completed a study on the benefits of using Nextel Direct Connect (NDC) for communications. Dr. Suk described the ability to respond with NDC as “literally instantaneous,” as opposed to paging, which can cause delays of nearly 10 minutes. The study also discusses the positive impact of using NDC on patients given the doctor’s ability to respond much quicker.
