May 6, 2008 - Nihon Kohden America Inc. unveiled two new patient monitoring systems at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition, part of AACN 2008.

The Prefense Early Detection and Notification System, which recently received 510K clearance from the FDA, is designed to protect hospital patients from medical harm and enhance the efficiency of rapid response teams. It consists of a new, low-acuity central station interface that is reportedly easy to use and cost-effective. Prefense allows hospital patients to freely ambulate while measuring heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and respiration.

The company also debuted its new 6000 series of bedside monitors, a system designed to provide all of the comprehensive review and recall capabilities, which until now have traditionally only been available at central station locations. During transport, the totality of patient data is collected and transferred as well, ensuring a complete patient record, according to Nihon Kohden.
