May 23, 2008 - At the annual “workstation” challenge held during the Stanford International Symposium on Multidetector Row CT, Claudio Smuclovisky, M.D., highlighted the flexible capabilities of the Philips Brilliance Everywhere Workstation and the thin-client Portal platforms.
A cardiac CT specialist, Dr. Smuclovisky, director, South Florida Medical Imaging Cardiovascular Institute, presented all four cases, reportedly affirming Philips ease of use across a variety of complex clinical applications.
“Of all the vendors, Philips was the fastest,” Dr. Smuclovisky said. “The simplicity of operation with the Philips workstation systems enabled me to complete all the case studies, with time to spare. Even when working with cases outside of my realm of expertise, I found the navigation of the data sets to be quick and easy, particularly with zero-click automated features that allowed for fast post processing.”
Each year, part of the Stanford symposium includes a CT workstation challenge in which all participating vendors process the same CT datasets to showcase their capabilities. The challenge’s primary objective is to view and compare how each major workstation or thin-client can be used for visualization and analysis of volumetric MDCT data. This year’s workstation and thin-client face-off featured cases from virtual colonoscopy to cardiac, lung nodule analysis and emergency studies on brain perfusion and carotid artery CTA.
