July 1, 2008 - MDA Technologies recently installed MDA TransQuest, a real-time wireless patient transport dispatch system, at Howard County General Hospital (HCGH), a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Columbia, MD.
MDA TransQuest optimizes patient flow by dispatching, managing and tracking patient transportation within hospitals. Delivered through PDAs, the software provides up-to-the-minute information about transport requests and sets priorities based on origin, destination, STAT requests and proximity of the last drop-off point. Accessed through a hospital's intranet, relevant data is delivered to transporters’ PDAs through the hospital's wireless network.
The hospitals said the system is helping streamline patient flow and automating operations for the staff of 16 transporters.
“I really like the system. I like the fact that I can monitor patient transport from anywhere in the hospital,” said Earl Spain, transportation supervisor for HCGH. “I can see how many people are being transported or waiting. It allows transporters to be more effective. They can go directly from one patient to the next without having to come all the way back to the office. Another benefit has been the reporting functionality. The reports allow me to find out how many transports we're doing in a day. It’s helped a great deal in letting me know what the peak times are, which helps me rearrange staff to meet demand.”
