November 3, 2010 – A new option for radiation therapy will be showcased at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) conference in San Diego, Calif. GE Healthcare will display the wide bore 1.5T OptimaT MR450w with Radiology Oncology Options for improvements in tumor targeting in brain, head/neck and pelvis therapy sites.
The Optima MR450w also has a high spatial integrity and 50 cm field of view.
With the improvement in the precision of radiation therapy, magnetic resonance (MR)'s ability to differentiate soft tissue positions the technology to play an increasingly important role in radiation oncology.
"Without exception, the first step in effectively reducing the time, effort and success in fusing MR to CT images for radiation treatment planning is the consistent set-up of patients in the MR scanner exactly as they are in planning CT," said Bryan Van Meter, global marketing manager of GE Healthcare's MR surgical and radiation oncology group.
The Radiation Oncology options were developed in partnership with Civco Medical Solutions. It consists of a flat couch insert with industry standard indexing and MR compatible positioning devices for brain, head/neck, and pelvis.
