University of Utah Health Care (UUHC) has chosen Accelarad’s SeeMyRadiology.com cloud-based medical image sharing platform for the communication of imaging exams with a full range of hospitals and medical practices across its large referral area encompassing five surrounding states.

“We receive patients from a geographic area that constitutes more than 15 percent of the continental United States and wanted a solution that would help us meet three key goals,” said George Tudder, director of imaging informatics. “We wanted to support immediate, on-the-fly transmission of images onsite for transfers to our Level 1 Trauma Center, to receive images for our nationally recognized stroke program and to eliminate the complexities of image sharing on CDs.”

Tudder said SeeMyRadiology.com is a unique web portal that enables doctors and patients to upload images to a cloud environment and grant immediate access to these studies, regardless of location. Images may be downloaded into the receiving facility’s PACS, if desired, or simply managed through the cloud environment.

UUHC surgeons can now view their images over the Internet before patients are transferred to its trauma center. With this image access, cases can be triaged, specialized surgeons brought in, if needed, and the operating room (OR) prepped—all in advance of the patient’s arrival.

Currently, the most common way to share images is via CD. But this can lead to a wide range of problems, from system incompatibilities and viruses to human error and image loss. Before UUHC adopted the new technology, imaging exams were often repeated once a patient arrived onsite.
