July 23, 2010 -- BrachyMESH is a prefabricated sterile polyglactin 910 mesh, embedded with I-125 sources (Model 6720) to physician specifications. It was shown by Oncura at the 2010 annual AAPM (American Association of Physicists in Medicine) meeting in Philadelphia.
It is designed to eliminate technical barriers, reduce operating room time, reduce staff radiation exposure and allow for a wider range of patients to benefit from lung brachytherapy and the permanent interstitial implantation of selected tumors which are localized, either unresectable or resectable after excision of the primary lesion, and of low to moderate radiosensitivity.
