3.0T MRI with radiofrequency transmission to adapt to individual patients is on the road.
June 8, 2010 - One of their many aims of leading medical charity COBALT is to facilitate screening for cancer operating within the three counties of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. To provide care across these regions, the charity is using the first 3.0T magnetic resonance system (MRI) system in Europe with MultiTransmit.
The mobile system, Achieva 3.0T TX Mobile, brings advanced MRI diagnostic capabilities to patients who previously may not have had access otherwise. The mobile MRI is built with the same imaging technology as the stationary Philips 3.0T TX system and outfitted with the same amenities and staff as an in-house MRI suite. The Achieva 3.0T TX Mobile is transportable in a 48-foot trailer.
Some of the benefits of a mobile MRI are several different health care facilities can rent it thanks to its ability to travel, and it can solve patient overflow issues in large University and teaching hospitals.
The mobile unit also includes active magnetic shielding, permitting the light-weight high field magnet to be transported in the trailer.
The Achieva 3.0T TX Mobile features MultiTransmit, patient-adaptive parallel transmit radiofrequency (RF) technology, which utilizes multiple radiofrequency transmission signals to automatically adjust to each patient's individual size and shape. Previously, radiologists using 3.0T imaging faced the challenge of dielectric shading, a non-uniform radiofrequency distribution in the body that affected image quality. The Philips MultiTransmit technology is designed to deliver enhanced image contrast uniformity and consistent 3.0T imaging to mainstream radiology.
