April 26, 2010 - The introduction of a large field, solid-state portable general-purpose camera makes it possible to image with greater flexability a wide range of nuclear medicine procedures.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave Digirad Corp. 510(k) clearance to market and distribute Ergo, a large field-of-view, general-purpose portable imaging system.

Ergo's lightweight and portable design is designed to enable imaging to be performed in the nuclear department and outside, including the intensive care unit, operating room, emergency department, in pediatrics and trauma units, and so on.

The heart of the Ergo is its large 12.25 inch by 15.5 inch field-of-view. The system enables general imaging with intrinsic spatial resolution of 3.25 mm, provides energy resolution of 7.9 percent and count rate capabilities of 5 million-counts-per-second (Mcps). The Ergo's design features three compound detector motions and a portable base for flexibility with the detector's position.

Digirad plans to ship its first production systems beginning in June of this year to a number of medical centers in the United States and abroad.
