March 15, 2010 - Advanced visualization software is increasingly playing an role in providing dose lowering techniques in computed tomography angiography (CTA).

One newly released solution incorporates an expanded range of tools to preprocess and filter CTA image data to adapt the diagnostic appearance of these images in accordance with departmental standards or according to each physician’s preferences. The ability to visualize vasculature, small or large, and to reduce the presence of noise artifacts may be improved by the application of iNtuition, by Terarecon, for adaptive filtering techniques and smoothing algorithms.

In addition, the automatic processing server (APS) can be preprogrammed to select the incoming low dose thin slice data and automatically generate thicker slices to reduce the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) assessment. The APS server now includes an application programming interface (API) to intelligently apply image preprocessing engines developed by researchers. The results and derived image data produced by these research engines can then be incorporated into customizable iNtuition workflows to increase interpretation efficiency.

The software leverages the server-based 3D rendering technology, the ASIC-based VolumePro, to provide more clinical tools and to support more simultaneous users from a single rendering server than any other technology. This is achieved with a small server footprint, and offers full clinical capabilities to all thin-client users at all times without the common practice of limiting certain physicians to only basic or core functionality.
