October 13, 2009 - The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) Division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has announced it will hold a rally in the Rayburn House Office Building Gold Room, on October 14, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. "to preserve access to medical imaging."
Patient advocacy groups, disease survivors, caregivers, radiologists, cardiologists, and other imaging advocates will call on the administration and Congress to reject measures that would devastate Medicare patient access to diagnostic imaging services, hitting rural communities the hardest.
Fourteen advocacy groups will release a letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius urging them to protect access to medical imaging. These groups include American Federation for Aging Research, American Pain Foundation, Black Women's Health Imperative, Brain Injury Association of America, Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Colon Cancer Alliance, Emergency Coalition to Save Cancer Imaging, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association, Kidney Cancer Association, Lung Cancer Alliance, Patient Advocates for Advanced Cancer Treatment, SemiColon, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, and YES! Beat Liver Tumors.
The event will also provide an opportunity to release a new analysis of 2008 Medicare data by the Moran Company that shows a continued decline in the growth of volume for advanced imaging.
