Since its introduction in 2008 as a Google-like search engine for radiology reports stored in the Philips iSite PACS, Softek Illuminate — manufactured by Softek Solutions, Inc. — has grown into a powerful information retrieval, physician notification and imaging analytics solution for hospitals.
At the core of its functionality, Illuminate’s proprietary free-text search capability lets users retrieve radiology reports and their corresponding images in a matter of seconds. Information in iSite PACS that once was virtually trapped now can be retrieved and shared in a time frame that allows doctors to affect the clinical decision process. An advanced algorithm ensures that the most relevant results are listed first. Users can search widely by diagnosis or condition, or they can use advanced criteria to narrow a search to a desired demographic, specific person or to look only through the Impression section of the reports. All search results link to the study and corresponding images.
The Analytics Module enables the reporting of statistics essential for making well-informed practice management decisions, including measurements on throughput and radiation dosages. Illuminate Alerts facilitate patient tracking as well as communication among physicians. Radiologists, and those they designate, can receive a variety of alerts, including automatic notifications when images are ready for viewing or have been read, or when recommended follow-up studies are completed. Bookmarks allow radiologists to tag and organize studies for their own reference or to share with colleagues
