July 16, 2009 - GE Healthcare today introduced its Innova Dose Reports, a service for centers that operate the Innova interventional X-ray systems. The system’s InSite broadband connection to GE remotely collects critical information on procedure utilization, views, dose usage per procedure and dose utilization trends during a given month.
As interventional procedures grow in complexity and length, tracking dose becomes increasingly important. Information collected via InSite is subsequently combined in a comprehensive report and delivered directly to the customer. Innova Dose Reports also provide the customer with a notification when total dose exceeds their prescribed threshold to support post-procedure activities.
“Two major factors are making attention to the patient’s radiation dose more important than ever: the increasing complexity of interventional procedures, which increases total X-ray dose, and a general lack of ready access to radiation data by clinicians, which has led to increased radiation injuries,” says Stephen Balter, Ph.D., medical physicist at Columbia University Medical Center, and chairman of NCRP Committee 3-2: Safety in Interventional Fluoroscopy.
