Carestream Health was the only equipment provider to analyze all cases on its Web-based Carestream PACS workstation, a standard Wintel-based PC (Dell Precision Workstation with Intel Xeon processor 5500 series)

May 26, 2009 — Carestream Health’s PACS workstation with on-board 3-D tools, which was the only PACS workstation to compete at Stanford University’s “Face-Off, ” completed all clinical imaging exams within the allotted time period during the “Workstation Face-Off” at Stanford University’s Annual International Symposium on Multidetector-Row CT held in San Francisco.
The “Workstation Face-Off” challenged providers of advanced 3D image processing technologies to process and interpret five complex computed tomography (CT) imaging studies. This year’s studies included skeletal/vascular; carotid/intracranial; genitourinary/vascular; pulmonary; and cardiac. Carestream Health was the only equipment provider to analyze all cases on its Web-based Carestream PACS workstation, a standard Wintel-based PC (Dell Precision Workstation with Intel Xeon processor 5500 series). The other seven providers used specialized dedicated 3D processing stations, some of which employed special processing hardware.
Radiologist Michalle Soudack, M.D., unit head, Pediatric Radiology, Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Israel, presented cases for the company during the event. “Carestream Health’s PACS workstation provided all the necessary tools I needed to easily read the five cases. I also use a Carestream PACS workstation at home, where its integrated and intuitive toolset allows me to read routine and complex cases including 3D and vessel applications from one workstation,” she said.
On the Carestream Health PACS workstations, workflow is streamlined since radiologists do not need to go to dedicated 3-D workstations. In addition, the Carestream PACS architecture enables 3D and other advanced features to be used on any workstation inside or outside the facility.
Advanced processing capabilities of the Carestream PACS platform include: automatic volume matching, PowerViewer, MPR, MIP, MinIP, volume rendering, complete vessel analysis, cardiac application, virtual colonoscopy, tissue segmentation tools, PET-CT and lung applications.
