February 23, 2009 – The Carol Milgard Breast Center, a women’s breast care center established by the three largest providers of breast imaging services in the Tacoma, WA-region, officially opens today and will offer state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments.
The Carol Milgard Breast Center will offer screening and diagnostic services including digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and breast biopsy, including stereotactic, ultrasound-guided and MRI-guided biopsy and bone density services. The center will offer educational programs for physicians and community members, and outreach and support for patients, families and survivors. CMBC will also work to provide care to all women regardless of socioeconomic status.
Three organizations – Franciscan Health System, MultiCare Health System, and TRA Medical Imaging – announced the creation of a state-of-the-art breast center in early 2008 following more than a year of discussions.
“The opening of the Carol Milgard Breast Center is a milestone on our path to provide outstanding personalized care to women – and men – when it comes to breast health,” said the Center’s executive director Alexis Wilson, PhD, RN. “Three leading healthcare providers in the Tacoma / Pierce County region came together and built an astoundingly important Center for women’s breast health.”
“My partners and I are thrilled to see our vision become reality,” said Khai Tran, M.D., the new medical director of the Carol Milgard Breast Center. “Many people and organizations should be congratulated for this facility where women’s breast health care is provided at the highest level and with the best medical know-how and digital imaging technology. Our specially-trained radiologists, as well as our entire medical and professional staff, will guide each step for every woman who arrives at our clinic.”
Now that the Center is open, MultiCare, Franciscan and TRA are coordinating breast care services and will offer screening mammography at MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park, St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, and TRA Lakewood. There will be no mammography services at Tacoma General Hospital, Allenmore Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Clare Medical Pavilion, Franciscan Gig Harbor Medical Pavilion on Kimball Drive, or TRA Tacoma on Cedar.
