February 3, 2009 – Fluke Biomedical recognized the work of Radiology Mammography International (RMI) with the donation of two MQSA Mammography Phantoms for use in an upcoming mission to Nairobi, Kenya.

RMI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the mammography and breast cancer education needs in developing and underserved regions around the world through technical assistance, donations and hands-on training.

Richard Hirsh, M.D., founder of RMI, said about the Nairobi mission, “During this mission, Radiology Mammography International will bring a Hologic/Lorad M IV mammography system to install at the Kenyatta National Hospital, the major teaching hospital in the region with a radiology residency training program. Our teaching team of American mammography technologists will train the hospital’s technologists how to perform mammograms, and I will train the radiologists in proper interpretation as well as ultrasound-guided breast procedures. All donated equipment will remain at the hospital for their ongoing use in their mammography division.”

RMI has been organizing teaching missions around the world for almost 20 years. Dr. Hirsh has been recognized by the Congressional Families Action for Cancer Awareness Program and by the Akron Peace Council Honors for his international humanitarian work.
