November 30, 2008 - GE Healthcare started RSNA by spotlighting its High Definition CT technology in the Discovery CT750 HD, a high definition low dose CT scanner, and the LightSpeed VCT XTe configuration, a new low-dose evolution of the proven LightSpeed VCT.

The Discovery CT750 HD is a high definition CT system that advances image quality through increased resolution, lower x-ray dose, and new applications such as Gemstone Spectral Imaging. These advances are now possible due to a fundamental redesign of the entire image chain including the breakthrough Gemstone detector and High Definition reconstruction technology.

At its core is the proprietary GE Gemstone detector, built with the first new CT scintillator in 20 years and based on a garnet gemstone. The Gemstone detector enables spatial resolution improvements of reportedly up to 33 percent for routine body imaging over today’s existing product.

Gemstone Spectral Imaging is an exclusive feature on the Discovery CT750 HD as it enhances tissue characterization through its ability to derive images that separate materials such as calcium, iodine and water. Spectral Imaging’s ability to derive a monochromatic image substantially reduces beam-hardening artifacts normally attributed to bone, metal and iodine, and provides tissue contrast optimization, which is important for improved lesion detection.

The image clarity of the Discovery CT750 HD is available without increasing dose. Leveraging Gemstone technology and HD reconstruction, the Discovery CT750 HD improves image quality while reducing dose up to 50 percent across the entire body, maintaining GE’s position as low dose technology leader.

GE is also unveiling the LightSpeed VCT XTe, a new generation of scanner from the LightSpeed VCT platform and enhanced with HD Technologies.

Now utilizing HD technologies, the LightSpeed VCT XTe advances clinical capability with
- Improved Patient Care through low dose imaging: Utilizing advanced HD reconstruction, dose reductions up to 40 percent are possible for routine imaging with no loss of image quality for diagnosis.
- Extended Range for Dynamic CTA & Functional Assessment: Volume Helical Shuttle provides 4D angiographic coverage surpassing today’s widest detectors, while extending organ coverage for perfusion assessment.
- Faster Throughput: The Xtream HD console provides a new platform for advanced acquisition modes, higher reconstruction throughput, and improved workflow.
Upgradeability. These HD technologies are available to existing VCT customers, meaning they can upgrade their systems to take advantage of new applications and lower dose to prepare their departments for tomorrow’s challenges.
