August 21, 2008 - Varian Medical Systems will feature at ASTRO 2008 its comprehensive treatment planning system, Eclipse, a solution designed to simplify modern radiation therapy planning for all kinds of treatment, including 3D conformal, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), RapidArc volumetric modulated arc, electron, proton and brachytherapy treatments.
Powerful 3D conformal planning tools in Eclipse are combined with interactive dose-volume optimization for fast, flexible, and accurate intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) planning. Automatic optimization of beam geometry simplifies the task of selecting the best beam angles for fixed-beam IMRT. And Eclipse incorporates a Smart Segmentation™ automatic contouring feature, the first fully automatic tool that uses intelligent software to identify and outline, within diagnostic images, organs and other structures to be irradiated or protected during treatment.
Eclipse is tightly integrated with Varian’s ARIA Oncology Information System, so that treatment plans from Eclipse are immediately accessible on ARIA workstations throughout the department as part of the patient’s electronic medical record, with no need for importing or exporting data.
