March 4, 2008 – SenoRx brought to NCBC its SenoSonix, a combination of the company’s breast biopsy system with an ultrasound imaging system, aiming to provide improved imaging with productive workflow.
The vacuum-assisted EnCor breast biopsy system is integrated with an ultrasound system developed and sold by Ultrasonix Medical Corporation of Canada. The fully programmable, automated, multimodality, modular system offers both open and closed tissue collection.
Also displayed was the Contura MLB, a Multi-Lumen Balloon Catheter delivering brachytherapy to the surgical margins following lumpectomy for breast cancer. The system is designed to reduce radiation treatment time to five days from six to eight weeks, focusing on localized partial breast radiation therapy instead of whole-breast. The system uses vacuum suction to remove excess seroma and air to enhance conformance of irregularly shaped lumpectomy cavity walls to the balloon surface, striving to deliver precise radiation dosing through multiple radiation source lumens.
